Where should I buy?  You should always buy in the best area your budget allows even if it’s a small or unattractive place. If you are single, security would be more important, for example, than the proximity of good schools.  Choose an area or neighbourhood where the majority of the residents are the same age as you and who maintain a standard of living similar to yours.  If you enjoy going out a lot don’t move into an area where everyone shuts down at 9pm.  Don’t forget to take peak hour into consideration – the time it takes to get to and from work can have a dramatic impact on your quality of life.

When should I buy?  There is no simple answer to this question.   So, the short answer is the sooner the better!

If you’re buying a home for the first time you will need to make your décor budget stretch as far as possible.

Structure
If you live in a small apartment with separated rooms it is probably wise to make a few structural changes by knocking down walls and enclosing the balcony to create more space.

Apart from the bathroom and bedroom doors there are no other doors inside the apartment therefore sliding doors are a great addition as they don’t take up too much space.

Walls
Try to keep the walls painted in a light colour neutral, earthy shades is a good

choice for a small room as it makes the area appear more spacious.

Lighting
Living rooms should be inviting, try to keep the curtaining around the
windows uncluttered and light.  A chandelier in the center of the room will also create a warm and soft ambience.

Open packing space
In a compact room, open shelves work better than a large
cupboard because they help to create the illusion of space.

Furniture
If your budget is tight you can stretch your décor rands by choosing
furniture items in a retro style, such as those pictured.  It takes a little effort  to combine second hand items stylishly and successfully.

Choose contemporary classic pieces of furniture.  Don’t be put off by damage upholstery it can be easily replaced  as long as the basic structure of the item is sound.

Try not to choose too many chunky pieces of furniture as this will create an illusion of clutter.

Accessories
Use vases, throws and scatter cushions in the latest fashionable colours
and designs to give your  furniture a new look and contemporary edge.
